Anime Limited has announced that it has acquired Shinkai Makoto’s 「言の葉の庭」(Kotonoha no Niwa/Garden of Words, Japan, 2012) and will be releasing it in the UK, both theatrically as well as on DVD/Blu-ray.

The announcement doesn’t come as total surprise, given that All the Anime already has releases of two other Shinkai films –「ほしのこえ」(Hoshi no Koe/Voices of a Distant Star, 2003) and「雲のむこう、約束の場所」 (Kumo no Mukō, Yakusoku no Basho/The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 2004).

Further details (i.e. exact dates) are still pending, but fans who can’t wait can catch the UK premiere of Kotonoha no Niwa at Scotland Love Anime in October, where it will screen both in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Some words from Andrew Partridge, the founder and president of Anime Limited, on the newly announced release:

Makoto Shinkai’s work has gone from strength to strength over the years and remains one of the top must-watch directors coming out of Japan. Garden of Words is an excellent example of this strength and is a sweet and beautiful film. We’re very happy to be able to introduce the UK to such a new director. We expect to see great things from Shinkai-san in the future.

I already acquired the DVD from Yesasia.com, so I will make sure to review the film in time for its UK release.
