After Dallas back in January, the Studio Ghibli Retrospective makes another stop in Texas, this time in Austin. In fact, the retrospective already began in March, but somehow the news passed me by. Still, there are another six of Miyazaki and Co’s greatest works for any fans of the Japanese animation studio to enjoy between April 5 and 18:

  • 紅の豚 (Kurenai no Buta/Porco Rosso, 1992)
(Hōhokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun/My Neighbors the Yamadas, 1999)
(Omoide Poro Poro/Only Yesterday, 1991)
(Majo no Takkyūbin/Kiki’s Delivery Service, 1989)
(Neko no Ongaeshi/The Cat Returns, 2002)
Mononoke-hime/Princess Mononoke, 1997)
The films screen at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (The Ritz and South Lamar). Note that some of the films have several showings, others only one. The cinema’s April calendars for The Ritz and South Lamar have all the details, although the April 5 screening of 紅の豚 (Kurenai no Buta/Porco Rosso) is currently NOT listed (see notice on the Drafthouse’s twitter feed).
Kiki and Jiji from 魔女の宅急便 (Majo no Takkyūbin/Kiki’s Delivery Service)
P.S. There are a number of other interesting films on the Drafthouse Cinema’s calendars. I spy:
(Noruwei no Mori/Norwegian Wood, Japan, 2010), which is on tonight, Jiro Dreams of Sushi (Japan, 2011)
  • Several Park Chan-wook (박찬욱) productions, including 올드보이 (Oldeuboi/Oldboy, 2003), 복수는 나의 것 (Boksuneun naui geot/Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, 2002) and 친절한 금자씨 (Chinjeolhan geumjassi/Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, 2005)
(Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Mirosu no Sei-naru Hoshi/Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, Japan, 2011) for all Austin-based anime fans.
