The schedule is finally out: plenty of feature films, documentaries and animations screening at the 2011 UKIFF. The most interesting one: Berlin’s Golden Bear Winner A Separation.

(If no trailer is provided, I was not able to find one.)

Some highlights:

  • جدایی نادر از سیمین (Jodái-e Náder az Simin/A Separation, 2011) – Directed by Asghar Farhadi. A Separation won, among several other awards, the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin International Film Festival. It is also Iran’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. Synopsis: “Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh. Simin sues for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his Alzheimer-suffering father.”

  • سه زن (She Zan/Three Women, 2008) – Directed by Manijeh Hekmat.

  • Digari (The Other, 2010) – Directed by Mehdi Rahmani. The synopsis seems to have echoes of Возвращение/The Return, but I imagine that a quite different story will play out on the screens.
  • طلا و مس (Tala va mes/Gold And Copper, 2010) – Directed by Homayoun Asadian.
  • لطفا مزاحم نشوید (Lotfan Mozahem Nashavid/Please Do Not Disturb, 2010) – Directed by Mohsen Abdolvahab. Won Special Jury Award at the Fribourg International Film Festival (Switzerland).

  • Family Special & Animation (all shorts) – All kinds of interesting-looking shorts, mostly animations.
