This is going to be the super-fastest and shortest post ever, because I need to go to bed before my Dad yells at me, but I just heard that Hosoda’s「おおかみこどもの雨と雪」 (Ōkami No Kodomo Ame To Yuki/The Wolf Children Rain and Snow, Japan, 2012) is on the official line-up for Scotland Loves Anime! I will do a proper post on the full line-up tomorrow, but I just wanted to shout that out into the world.
Yay yay yay! Ame to Yuki comes to Scotland!

We have a big-wig from one of the UK distro’s over atAUKN and he is furnishing is with more details about the films at the event. Are you going?
Yes! I’m going to try my best to go… I’ve blocked out the Edinburgh days on my calendar, and hopefully I can stay with friends of friends to keep the costs down.
Are you thinking about going? Or holding out for the chance that Ame to Yuki might come to the BFI film festival (which I’m assuming would be closer/cheaper for you to travel to?)?
The line-up for SLA looks pretty good but the BFI LFF holds more of a draw for me. That and the films I really want to see (Wolf Children/Ace Attorney) are split over two locations. The London Film Festival will also have a wider selection of live-action Japanese films. Hopefully Wolf Children will be there.
Travel costs work out about the same (coach to Scotland/train to London) only Edinburgh is 9 hours away compared to the 1 and a bit to London. I should book time off work round about now…
Well, with the BFI Festival the thing is of course that there so much on offer – you can see so much more in a day or two. I’m really wondering about Ame to Yuki at the BFI. The Tiger & Bunny screening that is at the BFI in September has a note that says “Screening in association with Scotland Loves Anime”, in other words, it’s a good bet that there has been talk between them and perhaps partial knowledge of each other’s line-up. I really don’t see where else it could screen before SLA.
If it does screen in London, I’ll probably cave and get a BFI membership so as to buy tickets the moment they become available. And probably still go up to Edinburgh (which is really one of my favourite places in the UK – I did my master’s there) and watch Nerawareta Gakuen, Anime Mirai and Ninja Scroll now that you recommend it! Agree on Ace Attorney – I would be interested in that, but with a week’s difference between Glasgow/Scotland, that’s not very likely.
Ace Attorney may screen in Edinburgh after all. This is what it says on their Twitter feed:
That’s what is so tempting about the BFI London Film Festival – live-action films. Maybe Ace Attorney will show up! I totally forgot about the BFI membership… Hmm. I need to plan this properly and order train tickets sharpish before they rise in price!
Ace Attorney might show up, maybe. It could show up at Raindance as well, although their fare is less, hmmm, mainstream? Not quite the right word. Raindance will release its programme next week, if I remember correctly, the BFI… who knows when.
