This is going to be an anime Trailer Weekly. Just because. A super short one too, but I’m literally falling asleep here and just cannot concentrate (「スローダンス」/Slow Dance, Japan, 2005 is to be blamed for this. I was watching till 3 a.m. – up to and including episode 9 – and had to get up at 6:30 for work). Apologies for any typos. I will fix them tomorrow.
- 「伏 鉄砲娘の捕物帳」 (Fuse Teppō Musume no Torimonochō/Fuse: A Gun Girl’s Detective Story, Japan, 2012) – First full trailer is now available. I’m still hesitant about the character design – particularly of the heroine – but if I get a chance to watch it, I definitely will.
Scotland Loves Anime, which I have firmly inked onto my calendar for October (Glasgow: 12-14, Edinburgh: 19-21), has been announcing films for its line-up: the first two parts of the new 「ベルセルク」 (Beserk, Japan, 2012) cinema trilogy, 「獣兵衛忍風帖」 (Jūbē Ninpūchō/Ninja Scroll, Japan, 1993) and Shinkai Makoto’s「星を追う子ども」 (Hoshi o Ou Kodomo/Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, Japan, 2011), which is curiously being referred as Journey to Agartha (Are they trying to rename it? Admittedly, the original English title is a bit of a tongue twister and is also not quite accurate, but I still like it.). And one more film, which is the one that I am most interested in seeing so far:
- 「ねらわれた学園」 (Nerawareta Gakuen, Japan, 2012) – Teaser only. I should say more here, but as I said, my brain isn’t functioning.
- 「灰羽連盟」 (Haibane-Renmei, Japan, 2002) – This is a 13-episode anime series from a decade ago. I have not seen it as it is really, really difficult to get hold of – unless you have a chunk of money to spare for one of the second-hand copies floating around on the internet (can some re-release this please?). What is linked isn’t an official trailer, but a fan-made video. I have heard that not everyone likes Haibane-Renmei, but it looks so utterly gorgeous (see below) that it immediately got me and that fan-vid only confirms it.
Bonus Bits:
- 「おおかみこどもの雨と雪x東京ガス おかあさんの唄」- Not a trailer, but an Okami Kodomo sponsored CM. Hosoda’s newest anime premieres next week in France, with cinematic release in Japan to follow.
- In case you haven’t heard yet, The Whole Hog’s stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 「もののけ姫」(Mononoke-hime/Princess Mononoke, 1997) has already sold out. I managed to get a ticket just in time. Will review in April 2013!
- It has been reported on Twitter this week that Miyazaki Hayao’s latest work “will tell the story of the designer of the Zero Fighter, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II” (via animenewsnetwork.co.uk). That sounds a little different from what we’ve heard before (scroll down to Bonus Bits in linked post).

Comment, Part II.
Drum rolls……MOUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!
Am I sadistic to find pleasure knowing I wasn’t the only one staying up this late?
And that, in your case, it was because of my drama recap? Fear the dramas addictiveness, children….
Not really digging the SF animations, but you made me watch Fuse Teppō Musume no Torimonochō when I skipped it the first time it crossed my path. I don’t regret it actually, though the genre and story aren’t my favorites. What can I say, I’m weak against impossible loves and Chara’s voice.
Before I forget, a link about Hosoda’s exhibit in Paris….I missed Aoi Miyazakiiiiii (you can see her in the pics)…This world is too unfair *sobs*

This was absolutely your fault as you were the one that mentioned Slow Dance to me – I hadn’t heard it about it before that!
You can tell what a sleepy baka I am… as I was inventing things since the Okami Kodomo premiere already took place and it was released in J-cinemas last Friday already. *Sigh* I did wonder whether it would have not been better to post the Trailer Weekly late rather than end up talking nonsense.
I’m beginning to like Fuse more and more, although I don’t like the way they have drawn the female character. We’ll see how it turns out – my expectations are not too high for it.
P.S. Why did you miss the event?
I’m working as a freelance, and had to complete a project that week. I need to win the lottery, I’m telling you.
Ahhh, booohooo.
kehehe
You and your evil cackle!
Well I like the look of Fuse
I like the music too. Very House of Five Leaves. Children Who Chase has been renamed for the UK release and I agree that the new name is underwhelming.
Haibane-Renmei… I was supposed to be doing a simul-watch of that on an anime website but that seems to have been scrapped. I’ve watched a few episodes ad it is truly gorgeous.
I like most of the look of Fuse, just not the girl character. What’s House of Five Leaves?
Don’t tell me Haibane-Renmei is gorgeous… that’s just going to get me frustrated.
House of Five Leaves. It’s one of those under appreciated gems that came out two years ago… It’s a period piece about a ronin who falls in with a mysterious gang of bandits and its charismatic leader who operate out of a brothel. Said ronin gets to understand all of the characters. This and The Tatami Galaxy were the shows from 2010 that really blew me away.
I hadn’t heard of it, nor The Tatami Galaxy (that’s an interesting title…), but then again I mostly watch films because there is too much to watch already…
I try and watch a number of anime every season but films take priority for me as well. Tatami Galaxy and Five Leaves are refreshingly mature and done in an interesting art style. I figure you might like them.
I will put them on my list… I have to go back to Tsuritama first from the spring season and decide whether I want to watch Sakamichi no Apollon – or whether the manga is enough for me. Or, alternatively, Uchuu Kyoudai. Beyond that, I might try your two recommendations. Perhaps not such a bad time, because dramas are bit thin on the ground at the moment (the two current ones I was watching just finished and no new ones are starting during the Olympics. The only one I’m still watching, Oguri’s Rich Man, Poor Woman, only has one ep per week).
I’m trying to juggle Natsuyuki Rendezvous, and Sword Art Online. I wanted to start a new drama after Keizoku and marked down Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo but I’ve been busy lately.
Here’s the OP for The Tatami Galaxy.
I like the look of that OP! Quite a lot actually.
Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo – I like the fact that we get foreigners thrown in (that’s always interesting in Japan), but Riisa Naka…. some of her films/dramas just didn’t do it for me.
